Dog Grooming Maine: Dog Hygiene - How To Keep Your Dog Clean, Flea Free, And Healthy! | Dog Grooming Gardiner

Dog Grooming Maine:

It is important to wash your dog, but not as important as you may think. Actually, if you have a healthy dog it doesn’t NEED to be washed too very often. It is our habit to surround ourselves by things that have a favorable smell and appearance which is the main reason we tend to want to wash and give haircuts to our dogs. However, it is not a necessity to wash your dog too overly often as long as they are healthy. This is good news for many people because doggie bathing time can be a very tedious time as some dogs can make it very difficult.

Many dogs themselves don’t like being washed they do however like the attention they get and the contact they receive from their owners during a wash. A tip for you is to perform more than just one cleansing routing in one sitting. This is because dogs tend to dislike sitting for normal cleansing routines such as brushing teeth, cleaning ears and checking for fleas so you should get them done with as quickly as possible for your dog.

Many people have asked how to brush a dogs teeth and if it’s necessary. Well most vets recommend that a dogs teeth be brushed at least two times a week as it will help ensure healthy teeth and gums for your dog for a long time. Think of brushing a dogs teeth as being important just like you should be brushing yours. The unfortunate truth is that a high majority of dogs actually don’t get their teeth brushed…it seems like a hassle but your dog’s healthy teeth and gums will be worth it!

Now you will want to get a toothbrush and special toothpaste that is designed for dogs, which you can usually find at stores that sell dog accessories and equipment. What you will do when brushing your dog’s teeth is to brush the back teeth by rotating the toothbrush in small circles and for the front more pointy teeth you will brush up and down. Many people think that brushing a dog’s teeth should be very difficult but the special dog toothpaste that you can get is specially formulated to be a pleasing taste to dogs so they can actually enjoy the task.

I recommend checking for fleas quite often as you can never be too safe. The last thing you want is for your dog to bring fleas into your house unknowingly. You should run your hands through your dogs hair to look for fleas…similar to checking for head lice on humans. You should check the dogs underbelly and under the collar with extra focus because these are areas that fleas tend to enjoy. You will be looking for signs that look like specks of pepper or brown rice. If you find any you should definitely look into some flea protection and removal services and/or products. They can be very difficult to remove if attempting to do it yourself and your dog will not enjoy the whole procedure. If your dog tends to be outside often, you should check regularly.

This is a task that is often overlooked by many dog owners but is important – cleaning your dog’s ears. Why is it important to clean your dogs ears? Because the waxy areas inside their ears is a place that small insects tend to appear. There is special ear cleansing solutions that you can get for this purpose and all you need is the product and a cotton swab to do a thorough cleaning.

Many owners also trim their dog’s toenails if they appear to get long. This is most often done on indoor dogs as a protection from holes and scratches from occurring throughout their houses. You can purchase special dog toenail clippers for this task that work quite well and quickly.

If you don’t feel comfortable performing some of these tasks, there are services that you can usually locate that will do them for you. Check in with your local vet clinic to locate such a service in your area.

Man suffers heart attack while eating at Heart Attack Grill (Video) | The Sideshow - Yahoo! News

Millions of Americans watch what they eat. But one Las Vegas man has painfully discovered that where you eat can have a big impact on your health as well. In a story almost too bizarre to be true, a man suffered a heart attack after eating a "triple bypass burger" at the Heart Attack Grill in downtown Las Vegas, local affiliate Fox5 reports.

As comically tragic as that may sound, no one can sue the restaurant for not issuing fair warning. Its website proudly proclaims the menu offers, "Taste Worth Dying For!" (Fortunately, the man in question survived his attack.)

Still, it was the first actual known cardiac incident at the Heart Attack Grill. "He was having the sweats and shaking," "Nurse" Bridgett, who was working at the restaurant at the time of the incident, told Fox5. (Employees at the restaurant are given fake medical titles, including the establishment's owner, "Doctor" Jon Basso.)

"I actually felt horrible for the gentleman because the tourists were taking photos of him as if it were some type of stunt. Even with our own morbid sense of humor, we would never pull a stunt like that," Bosso told Fox5. "He was sweating, suffering. Anyone with an ounce of compassion would've felt for him."

Basso said the man's name is being kept private but that he is recovering from the heart attack.

Of course, you can't blame patrons for being caught up in the overwhelming sense of irony. Not only is the restaurant named the Heart Attack Grill, but its sign tells prospective diners that anyone "over 350 pounds eats free." There's even a tongue-in-cheek warning sign at the restaurant's door stating that the offered dining fare is a health risk.

Some of the menu items available for diners at the Heart Attack Grill include: The butterfat milkshake, non-filtered cigarettes, "flatliner" fries and four different burgers, each rated on an ascending scale of one bypass to the quadruple bypass burger.

The buzziest Super Bowl ads of 2012 | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo! Sports

Super Bowl advertisements run around $3.5 million for a 30 second spot. So it was no surprise to see companies go all out, whether they went for comedy or played it straight.

For the second year in a row, Volkswagen had one of the buzziest ads of the Super Bowl. This year's spot featured an overweight pooch that can't fit through the doggy door. The dog exercises (runs up and down the stairs, swims in the pool, etc.) until it can fit through the door and give chase to its favorite car, the VW Bug. But that isn't all. At the end of the ad, in a call back to last year's hit ad from VW, the commercial switches to the famous cantina from the original Star Wars film where a certain Dark Lord of the Sith makes an appearance.

Last year, Eminem starred in a very memorable "Imported from Detroit" commercial for Chrysler. This year, the carmaker cast Clint Eastwood as its spokesman. The iconic actor talks about how it's "halftime in America" and Detroit is making a comeback. The world will hear the roar of our engines, Eastwood says. "Our second half is about to begin." Call it the Go America clip of the game and certainly the best heartfelt ad of the bunch.

MetLife bet it all on cartoon nostalgia. Charlie Brown, Scooby-Doo, Voltron, Grape Ape, Mr. Magoo, Richie Rich and many more joined forces for one nerd-tastic ad. Try and count everybody in the ad: it's no easy task. Alfred Maskeroni of AdWeek remarked that it was "like drinking a chilled juice box. It felt new and refreshing, yet nostalgic."

It was a crowded field, but Pepsi definitely won the award for most bizarre use of celebrity spokespeople. The soda giant cast Elton John as a Lewis Carroll-inspired king. King Elton cruelly denies his subjects Pepsi until Melanie Amaro (winner of the "X Factor") sings her heart out, and casts Elton to a dungeon where he has to spend the rest of his life with Flavor Flav (The horror!). Watch it here.

Making fun of vampires feels a bit 2009. But Audi managed to give the joke some new life with its spot. A handsome vampire drives his swanky Audi to a party with his fellow blood-sucking monsters. When he gets there, he accidentally shines the Audi's headlights (which aren't your average everyday headlights, natch) on his friends and before you can say "Team Edward," the vampires go poof just like they were out in daylight. Watch the clip here.

Doritos cast man's best friend in one of its best commercials. A man discovers his dog might be responsible for a missing cat. The dog, sensing that he might be ratted out, decides to bribe the witness with some Doritos. Everybody wins. Watch it here.

Here's an important tip for Super Bowl commercials. If you can find a way to use lumberjacks sawing a giant sandwich, your ad will be judged a success. Kia's Optima commercial, which also employed Motley Crue, women in bikinis, and kickboxer explosions rocked it with maximum machismo.
