Upcoming courses available at CMCC | Sun Journal

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College is offering several courses to the public this month.

Effective Marketing for Sole Proprietors and Entrepreneurs will be held on three consecutive Thursdays, May 17 to 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. It will supply self-employed business owners tools to successfully market themselves. Participants will create an effective marketing strategy and gain the confidence to incorporate it into their business plan. The cost for the course is $99, and includes all materials. The noncredit course is open to any sole proprietor or entrepreneur interested in gaining a competitive edge through effective marketing techniques. Deadline for registration is May 10.

Don’t Follow the Pack is a three-part program designed to help participants develop an ability to think creatively. It will be offered three consecutive Fridays, May 18 through June 1, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of business differentiation within the local economy. The cost for the course is $99 and includes all materials. The noncredit course is open to anyone looking to improve their self-confidence in marketing through a holistic approach to business. Deadline for registration is May 11.

Supervising People: The Essential Skills for Leaders is a five-part series held  Fridays, May 18 to June 15, from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $315 and includes all materials. This program will help managers, supervisors and team leaders identify communication barriers and performance issues, and provide tools to address difficult employees. Deadline for registration is May 11.

Doing More with Less: Making The Best Use of Your Time is a workshop from 9 a.m. to noon May 22. The cost is $39 and includes all materials. Participants will learn to use their time and other resources as efficiently as possible. Deadline for registration is May 15.

ABCs of Accounting for Small Businesses will be held three consecutive Tuesdays, May 22 through June 5, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $159 and includes materials. The course is designed to give the small business owner a “real-life” understanding of the financial side of business. Included will be basic accounting, financial statements, taxes, budgets, forecasts and cash flow. It is a prerequisite for the QuickBooks course that begins in mid-June. The deadline for registration is May 15.

Optimizing Smartphones and Tablets for Business will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. May 23 followed by time for one-on-one instruction. The course provides basic instruction and hands-on experience to maximize the use of technology for employees and business owners.  The course is open to Android, Apple, Blackberry and Windows platform users. The cost is $59 and will include all materials. Participants are asked to bring their own smartphone and/or tablet. Deadline for registration is May 16.

Selling Is Everybody’s Business — Learn To Do It Better is a two-hour workshop May 29 from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $29, and includes all materials. Participants will learn how every member of the team contributes to increased sales of their products or services. Deadline for registration is May 22.
